    I've seen this before. Also when toilet paper came in printed designs it was the best way to see the design. The advantage of the other way was to keep children and cats from pull the paper off the roll. Also, as it's more work to get the paper off, commercial/public bathrooms would go with the paper down the back also.

    I like the paper over method because it means the paper is less likely to touch the wall before I use it.
