In which I go through my list of local LinkedIn connections to find someone who might know a CPA who specializes in estates and trusts so Primo can have the estate pay a professional to do the estate taxes instead of spending days doing it himself for free and discover that the only CPA in my local connections is the guy Primo is running against

Yes, that is correct. I am connected on LinkedIn to the legislator Primo is running against. We met a few years ago the first time Primo was running. Primo and I both liked him. We connected.

But I think it would be weird to ask him now if he knows anyone.

  1. Worth every penny to have a pro do the taxes. Besides saving your sanity it'll save family aggravation. Been there, done that.

  2. I did my Mother's with Turbo Tax. It was easy, but she had little in her estate and virtually no investment. From the sounds of it, Primo's weren't much better off.

  3. Eh, his ability as a CPA, much less his ability to refer you to another CPA, should have nothing to do with their political aspirations. I see the two spheres as completely distinct. Although I suppose asking him for a favor is a bit more awkward now. Close call. I'd probably ask, but then I don't usually worry about awkwardness, I just figure it's part and parcel of my life, and I've come to embrace that. :D
