In which Primo is home less than 48 hours before realizing he may have to go back to Sly and Doris' before he intended

Primo is supposed to be home for ten days. He got home on Saturday; he is supposed to be here until next Tuesday. Ten days. Ish.

But when I got home from work, he announced that instead of seeing the orthopedic doc tomorrow about her bones, Doris would be getting a transfusion instead because her red blood cell count is down.

Primo says this has happened before.

He also said Sly is super cranky because he has had to stop taking all of his allergy meds in anticipation of surgery.

Doris' cousin sent a frantic email to Primo asking for a status update.

"Why didn't she just call your dad?" I asked. "Since when have you become the master of these ceremonies?"

Primo sighed and got despondent. "I might not even get to be home for ten days!" he said. "I might have to go back there early!"

Yes. We are losing our lives to these people.

  1. (*snark alert*) Isn't Sly being super cranky a normal state of affairs? Was he off the booze as well? I presume Doris had to stop drinking while this was going on.

Dang, how stressful for Primo! Cheese throwing would probably not be enough in this situation. Maybe a long drive to a place with no internet or phone service? (That's what I would have done/wanted to do.)

    1. You are right! Sly is always a jerk. Primo has been kind of jerky himself with all of this. Sly is contagious.

  2. Ah, the master of ceremonies, that's a great term for it! I had relatives asking how my dad was doing so often that I started telling them "I'll let you know when there's something to know." Of course, he's been in the hospital or rehab for 5 months now, so there are long periods when we're just waiting and watching for incremental improvements or declines.

    1. I tried to get Primo to set up a CaringBridge account, but it took a back seat to everything else going on.

I hope your dad gets better soon. xox

  3. I thought allergy meds might be the code words for alcohol consumption - that would make him really irritable.

Poor Primo and poor you. If this was a (bad )movie, you could walk out of the theatre.

    1. Ha! Yes - no meds AND no booze! That would do it!

There are times when I want to walk out of this life. Not really what I signed up for, especially when you throw in the political stuff!

    WHOSE FAULT IS THAT?!?!

I don't mean to sound rude, but this is happening because Primo is LETTING IT HAPPEN. If he had told S&D, 'You need to sort this out. I will not help you,' they would have sorted it out.

    1. I know. It makes me crazy that Primo will not do what is perfectly obvious to me, which is to tell Sly to go to hell.
